What are the patient benefits of using the spasticity app?The measures in the management of a spastic movement disorder depend on the distribution pattern of the spastic movement disorder (SMD) across the body and the severity of the spastic tone increase and other positive signs of the Upper Motor Neuron Syndrome (UMNS).
The spasticity app is based on the principle of a questionnaire based on the traffic light principle. The patient answers 10 questions at regular intervals (preferably weekly). The spasticity app uses these questions to determine whether there has been a change in the health status and whether spasticity could develop.
Depending on the test result, the patient is advised to contact his or her family doctor, neurologist or physiotherapist.
This app supports patients after a stroke and helps them to look out for early signs of possible developing spasticity.
Explanation of the Spasticity App
The doctor, nursing staff, physiotherapist or relatives explain to the patient the importance of the spasticity app.
The patient is then registered. This requires the patient's contact details as well as information about their family doctor, physiotherapist or neurologist.
After successful registration and activation, your patient can use the Spasticity App.
The patient should answer the questionnaire with 10 questions once a week.
These are the possible results of the questionnaire according to the traffic light principle:
When green
Continue self-monitoringIf yellow 3 times, contact your GP or physiotherapistIf red 1 time, contact your GP or physiotherapist
From 2 times red
Contact your neurologistFrom 5 times red
Contact your neurologist urgently
Practical example:
The result indicates that the patient should contact their family doctor, physiotherapist or neurologist.
The patient has the option of using the spasticity app to call his or her family doctor, physiotherapist or neurologist to make an appointment.
